Sunn O))) Half Life
Report incorrect information
The EarthQuaker Devices HalfLife is a compact version of the Life Pedal, combining analog octave-up, distortion, and boost in a smaller enclosure while retaining the core functionality of its larger predecessor. Originally inspired by the Life Pedal developed with Sunn O))), it is designed for everything from heavy distortion to octave-enhanced lead tones.
The distortion section is based on a White Face RAT-style circuit and offers three clipping modes: OpAmp (no diode clipping), Asymmetrical (silicon diodes and LED clipping), and Symmetrical (classic silicon diode clipping). The octave section uses a fully analog full-wave rectifier circuit that can be blended into the signal and responds particularly well to single-note playing.
The signal path is fixed as Octave → Distortion → Boost, with each section independently switchable. Additional features include expression control for the octave blend and EarthQuaker's Flexi-Switch technology for momentary or latching operation.
