FX84 Milk Box Compressor v2

The DOD FX84 Milk Box Compressor is a compressor introduced in 1996 as the successor to the FX80B. In 1998, the FX84 received a cosmetic redesign with conventional control labels: Level, Compress, Attack, and Hi Exp. Alongside its compression circuit, it features dedicated high-frequency expansion, with Hi Exp responding dynamically to playing intensity to increase high-frequency presence. Level sets the output, Compress adjusts the amount of compression, and Attack controls the compressor’s response time. According to the manual, the FX84 is designed to run in front of the amplifier rather than in an effects loop, preferably first in the effects chain. Its circuit uses four 4558-type op-amps and two THAT 2159 VCAs.
