Alexander Pedals
Velvet Noise
Report incorrect information
The Velvet Noise is a stereo widening pedal based on velvet-noise decorrelation, a technique designed to make the left and right channels less similar in a way that reflects how acoustic spaces scatter sound. Rather than relying on conventional phase shifting, delays or frequency-band manipulation, it creates a wider stereo image while maintaining the center and preserving mono compatibility. A single control sets the amount of widening: fully counterclockwise leaves the original signal untouched, while turning it clockwise progressively blends in the processed signal. At maximum settings, subtle modulation provides more extreme stereo separation. The pedal is designed for minimal latency and requires a stereo amplifier or playback system for the widening effect to be audible.
