The Empty Head Effects King Alex II is a distortion pedal combining a silicon transistor drive with an op-amp gain stage placed before it. Increasing the gain progressively overwhelms the transistor circuit, taking the sound from warm drive into heavily saturated and destructive distortion. Controls consist of Gain and Volume, accompanied by an Op-Amp Pre-Gain Bypass toggle and a Hi/Lo Gain switch. The transistor stage uses silicon transistors similar to those found in Big Muff circuits, while asymmetrical clipping combines 2N4124 silicon and 5 mm LED diodes. The King Alex II uses soft-switching true bypass.
