Ratsbane

The Wampler Ratsbane is a ProCo RAT-inspired distortion that expands the classic circuit with additional gain and voicing options. It delivers everything from low-gain overdrive and boost to saturated distortion and fuzz-like tones while retaining the RAT's characteristic Filter control, which adjusts the high-frequency response from bright and cutting to warm and smooth. In addition to the standard Distortion, Filter, and Volume controls, the Ratsbane features a three-position Gain switch with stock, boosted, and high-gain modes, plus a Voice switch that tightens the distortion and alters the clipping and compression for a more modern, high-gain character. The circuit uses a modern op-amp by default, but the IC is socketed, allowing experienced users to swap it for an LM308 if desired. Designed as Brian Wampler's interpretation of the classic RAT, the Ratsbane offers significantly greater flexibility while preserving the dynamic response and aggressive character of the original.
